Fortnite has a history of releasing rare items, but recent updates have changed the status of many once-unobtainable cosmetics. From unique skins to elusive Mythics, here are 15 of the rarest items in Fortnite.

The Paradigm Skin: An Accidental Rarity

When the original Paradigm skin dropped in Chapter 1, it was labeled as a “limited-time exclusive.” Epic Games even stated it wouldn’t return, but that changed when the Brie Larson version was released years later. Players were thrilled to complete their Seven collection, only for Epic to panic and remove the skin. Initially planning to delete it from players’ lockers, Epic changed their minds, making the Paradigm Reality Warrior Style one of the rarest skins ever.

Indigo Kuno: Exclusivity Through Competition

This PlayStation Generations Cup exclusive required players to place high in the tournament, making it extremely rare. Only 6,000 players managed to unlock Indigo Kuno, and it has never returned to the game since.

Collabs and Contracts: Arcane Skins

Collaboration skins often become rare due to limited contracts or controversy. The Arcane skins from the hit Netflix series “Arcane” haven’t returned in over 1,000 days despite the series’ massive popularity. Even the show’s creators have expressed regret about the absence of a celebratory re-release.

Mythic Grab Bag and Rare Features

Some rare items aren’t skins but gameplay features. For instance, the Mythic Grab Bag reality augment offers players a random Mythic item but only has a 0.3% chance of appearing in a match. Similarly, the Mythic Sentinel Pump, a rare drop from Shogun X, is a weapon that’s eluded most players.

The OG Controversy: Renegade Raider and Aerial Assault Trooper

Few skins have caused as much controversy as the Renegade Raider and Aerial Assault Trooper. Once considered unattainable, these Chapter 1 exclusives became available again in Chapter 6. However, Epic rewarded original owners with exclusive OG styles, preserving their rarity.

Kratos and Agent Peely: A Golden Opportunity

Kratos’s PS5-exclusive gold style is a prized possession for fans of the God of War franchise. Similarly, Agent Peely’s fully gold style required players to grind to level 350 in Chapter 2’s Spy season. With nearly 2,000 hours of gameplay needed, it remains one of the hardest unlocks in Fortnite history.

Forgotten Features: Bud the Mushroom

In Chapter 2, Epic tested NPC mechanics with Bud the Mushroom. Players could wake him up by emoting, feed him 100 wood, and gain a healing companion. However, Bud was removed after 24 hours, leaving only memories for the lucky few who encountered him.

The Axe of Champions and Reflex X

Fortnite’s competitive scene has its own rare items. The Axe of Champions is exclusive to FNCS winners, while the Reflex X outfit, initially a hardware exclusive, mistakenly appeared in the item shop. Epic compensated original owners with a red-and-black variant, and both versions are now ultra-rare.

Rare Gliders and Events

The Móóglass glider and World Cup exclusives like the World Warrior skin remain elusive to most players. Even rarer are event-specific items like the Mythic Goldfish, which had a 1-in-1-million spawn rate during its debut.

The Zapatron: Fortnite’s Unicorn

No list of rare Fortnite items is complete without the Zapatron. This futuristic weapon existed for only 30 minutes in 2017, making it the rarest and most legendary item in Fortnite history.

What is the rarest skin in Fortnite?

The Zapatron is the rarest item overall, but among skins, the OG Renegade Raider and Paradigm Reality Warrior Style are top contenders.

Can rare items return to the item shop?

While some rare items like OG skins have returned, others, such as collaboration skins or exclusives, are unlikely to come back due to licensing agreements.

What makes an item rare in Fortnite?

Factors include limited-time availability, high unlock difficulty, and special exclusivity agreements.
